Coating Capabilities

Janos Technology's Coating Designers have extensive design and fabrication experience in evaporated thin-film coatings and employ advanced coating design software. Coatings are evaporated by either the resistance or the advanced electron beam method. Our thin-film coatings are available in wavelengths ranging from ultraviolet to the far infrared, including the astronomical wavelengths bands, depending on substrate material and application.

Our Coating Department is located in an environmentally controlled space within our 25,000 square foot facility. This facility is also home to our optical fabrication, diamond machining, metal working, and quality control facilities. The proximity of these integrated capabilities lends itself to an ease of manufacture and communications rare in our industry. It allows Janos to maintain the very highest quality standards while controlling costs and avoiding delays.

Types of Coatings JTI offers:

    • Broadband Anti-Reflective
    • Multi-Spectra Coatings
    • BBAR
    • Multiple Band BBAR
    • Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC)

    Anti-Reflectance Coatings

These maximize transmission over a specified wavelength or wavelength region and range from single layer to multi-layer coatings. Anti-reflectance coatings increase transmission through an optic by as much as 50% on a high index material like Germanium. Uncoated Germanium has a transmission of only about 45%. The anti-reflectance coating increases the transmission of Germanium into the 98% transmission area. On lower index materials like Calcium Fluoride and Fused Silica the increase in transmission is only around 5%. However in a multi-element system the small loss at each optic will add up to very large energy loss for the overall system. Anti-reflectance coatings of these low index materials will increase transmission through each optic incrementally but can result in a significant energy throughput increase.

Metallic Coatings
Metallic coatings maximize reflection to about 98% over a broad wavelength region. The metallic coating can also be enhanced for an even higher reflectivity in narrower wavelength regions. Metallic coatings can be applied to glass, crystals, and metal substrates. They can also have protective overcoats applied to allow moderate durability and cleaning.

Beamsplitter Coatings
These allow the splitting of light beams specified in terms of percent transmission and percent reflection over a specified wavelength or wavelength region.

Filter Coatings
Filters allow wavelength pass or wavelength bandpass, specified in terms of percent transmission and percent reflection over specified wavelength regions.

Coatings on Fluoride Substrates
Janos has extensive experience in coating large CaF2 and BaF2 optics and employs proprietary procedures to eliminate fracturing during the coating process.
