Six Sigma
Janos
Technology is currently deploying Six Sigma, the highest level of
Total Quality Management, in our journey to becoming the world’s
premier supplier of advanced optics, components and assemblies.
Why
Six Sigma? Because the goal of Six Sigma is to increase profits
by eliminating variability, defects and waste that undermine internal
and external customer loyalty. The methodology provides our business
with the tools to improve the capability of our business processes.
We will realize an increase in performance and the quality of our
products.
Six
Sigma is a philosophy of doing business encompassing continuous
improvement and defect prevention rather than detection. Six Sigma
provides us with the statistical tools from Pareto charts to designed
experiments that allow us to eliminate variation affecting target
values and move our product and processes to their optimal target
values.
Six
Sigma has five phases that we are deploying: Define, Measure, Analyze,
Improve and Control (DMAIC),
The
strategy focuses on getting rid of problems, rethinking our task
and streamlining processes. In some case this may mean completely
changing the way we have been doing things. "It is not about
fixing things, it is about reinventing them", states Max Allway,
Vice President of consulting at the Six Sigma Academy.
Customer
Benefits:
• Shorter
Cycle Time
• Improved on-time delivery
• Less scrap & rework
“If
you do not measure something, you can not control it and if you
can not control it, you can't improve it”, explains Mike Harry,
one of the founders of Six Sigma.
Janos
Technology is also implementing Lean Manufacturing as a function
of the continuous improvement plan. Lean and Six Sigma complement
one another and together provide us with a structured road map in
achieving our goals.
