Janos Technology Offers MAGNETO RHEOLOGICAL FINISHING (MRF) SERVICES

Industry Leading Capabilities Correct Lens Aberrations, Render Windows or Mirrors

Keene NH, November 12, 2013 – Janos Technology LLC, a world leader in advanced infrared optic components and assemblies, provides state-of-the-art magneto rheological finishing (MRF) services to optical OEMs and end-users to correct aberrations on high-value lenses. The MRF process uses a magnetically-sensitive fluid that temporarily stiffens when exposed to a magnetic field to create an infinitely variable polishing tool to correct lens aberrations. It selectively polishes portions of the lens surface to make the correction and provide tenth wave irregularity. In addition to correcting lens aberrations, Janos’ MRF services can also render near perfect windows or mirrors across defense, security surveillance, and commercial applications.

According to Janos Technology General Manager John Therriault, “our MRF process starts with a full-aperture picture of the entire lens surface detailing the aberrations that affect its performance. We use a sub-aperture stitching interferometer (SSI) to map the lens surface. Janos technicians use the SSI map and the lens’ original optical prescription to create a correction geometry that guides the MRF equipment.”

Materials suitable for Janos MRF services include:  Barium Fluoride, Calcium Fluoride, Chalcogenides (AMTIR, BD, GASIR, IG/IRG),  Fused Silica, Germanium, Glass, Lithium Fluoride, Magnesium Fluoride, Nickel Plate (Electroless), Silicon and Zerodur.
